Short Courses

Wentworth College focuses on providing training specifically for people working in Aged Care, Community Services & Healthcare.

We work with Residential Aged Care homes & Community Service providers to train their staff.

Wentworth College is a RTO (Registered Training Organisation) and we provide nationally recognised qualifications from the AQF (Australian Qualifications Framework).

In addition to the accredited Cert III and Cert IV courses that we offer, we also provide a range of specialised short courses for people working in Aged Care, Community Services & Healthcare.

Wentworth College Short Courses have been developed specifically for the Residential Aged Care homes & Community Service providers that we work with to provide training for their staff.

Depending on your preference, short courses can be delivered on site at your facility or at a local training venue that we provide.

We are also able to customise an existing short course or develop a new short course to meet your specific requirements.

  • Medication Assistance Skill Set for AINs

    The Wentworth College Medication Skill Set for AINs provides a set of skills for assisting with medication administration in accordance with legislation, regulations and industry guidelines.

    This skill set has been endorsed by industry as appropriate for people who hold an aged care, community services or health qualification at Certificate level III or higher.

  • Medication Management for RNs in Residential Aged Care

    The Wentworth College Medication Management for RNs in Residential Aged Care has been developed to refresh the knowledge and skills of RN’s employed in Aged Care Facilities.

    This course – typically delivered as an in-service – focuses on Medication Management and the Nursing Guidelines for the management of Medicines in an Aged Care Setting.

  • Hygiene and Food Safety for Aged Care

    The Wentworth College Hygiene and Food Safety for Aged Care Course is a popular short course that covers all aspects of food hygiene and infection control for Aged Care staff – critical for maintaining a safe food handling environment.

    Topics covered include personal hygiene, effective hand washing, HACCP, food poisoning, storage, and allergens.

  • Skin Integrity

    The Wentworth College Skin Integrity Course is run regularly for our Residential Aged Care & Community Services clients.

     Participants who complete this course will have knowledge and skills to maintain good skin integrity when performing care duties and the knowledge to act in accordance with current Best Practice standards.

    The course covers key topics including observation of skin, common skin disorders, foot care, pressure area care, skin care and wound management.

  • Manual Handling/Clients Transfers

    The Wentworth College Manual Handling/Clients Transfers Course combines the theoretical delivery of Occupational Workplace Health and Safety with practical demonstrations and observation.

    Participants review the principals of Manual Handling in association with client transfers in line with OH&S and industry standards.

    The practical demonstrations include manual handling techniques and equipment, including slide sheets, hoists and other common mechanisms.

  • Activities of Daily Living

    The Wentworth College Activities of Daily Living Course is designed to give participants an overview of what it means to be caring for a client, from the client’s perspective.

    This impactful session focuses on the Privacy and Dignity aspects of the work the carer performs and includes sections on personal hygiene, client hygiene and presentation.

  • Elder Abuse

    The Wentworth College Elder Abuse Course covers this critical learning area in detail from recognition through to mandatory reporting.

    Topics covered include understanding and recognising elder abuse and assessing and responding to elder abuse and reporting requirements.

  • Preventing Falls

    The Wentworth College Preventing Falls Course looks at this important area to provide a greater understanding of why falls happen and strategies and approaches to prevent falls in the care environment.

  • Apply First Aid with CPR Refresher

    The Wentworth College Apply First Aid with CPR Refresher covers the theory and practical components of CPR and is designed for people who hold a current First Aid certificate.

    It is recommended that this course is completed on an annual basis to maintain the currency of the First Aid Certificate for it’s three year duration.

    This course is suitable for people required by industry to act as First Aid Officers and may be deemed necessary under work health legislation.

    It is also suitable for people who have previously completed a Provide Basic Emergency Life Support Program and would like to learn more about first aid.

    Other people who complete the course are those likely to come across incidents, people who wish to learn first aid skills which may be useful for future purposes and people who are interested in helping to promote health and well being in the community.

  • Custom Courses

    Wentworth College Short Courses have been developed specifically for the Residential Aged Care homes & Community Service providers that we work with to provide training for their staff.

    We are also able to customise an existing short course or develop a new short course to meet your specific requirements.

    New course content is developed by the directors of Wentworth College in consultation with the client and drawing on the our experienced team of educators – many of whom retain an active role working in the industry.
